When residents want to experience the scenic Texas Hill Country surrounding Sweetwater, they’ll find nearly limitless opportunities.
Here’s just one idea: take a thrilling zipline tour through the treetops at Cypress Valley Canopy Tours, then savor the experience at Stone House Vineyard. Both are located in nearby Spicewood, approximately 15 miles from Sweetwater.
Cypress Valley Canopy Tours offers a thrilling eco-adventure through a canopy of old-growth cypress trees, some as tall as 100 feet. You’ll glide along five different zipline segments, connected by sky bridges and platforms, and ending with a rappel. The longest line is more than 350 feet, and platforms are up to 40 feet high.
The experience lasts from 90 minutes to two hours. At the first platform, guides will help you acclimate to the heights and point out of highlights of what you can expect to see. From there, you’re free to fly through the canopy.
You can end your visit with a picnic and swimming at Cypress Valley’s clear water pool and seasonal lake. For an extended adventure, you can stay overnight in one of several private tree houses perched high up in the cypress trees. These accommodations can sleep from two to 14 guests.
To wind down, head over to nearby Stone House Vinery, where the seven-acre vineyard sits high on a bluff overlooking Lake Travis. The founders, Angela and Howard Moench, hail from Australia’s wine country In Barossa Valley, and they are committed to crafting distinct wines that blend techniques and flavors from Down Under and the Lone Star State.
Why the name, Stone House? The winery is constructed out of massive native Texas limestone blocks, each weighing more than 2,000 pounds. It makes for a great setting for enjoying a glass of wine, and selecting your favorite bottles to take home. Stone House also hosts special events throughout the year, such as its chef-prepared Summer Dinner and Opera at the Vineyard.
