May is a magical month in the Texas Hill Country, combining the last hurrah of spring with a heady hint of summertime fun and freedom. Here’s a list of our Top 6 picks for Hill Country festivals near Sweetwater. Enjoy!
Becker Vineyards Lavender Festival, May 6-7. For 19 years now, this Stonewall vineyard has celebrated lavender with live music, artisans, cooking demos, lavender fields in bloom, and much more. The winery will be open for tastings and tours both days.
Marble Falls MayFest, May 10-13. This four-day event is jam-packed with family fun, including a carnival, live music, games, crafts, food and much more. The location is shady Johnson Park, where two creeks flow into Lake Marble Falls.
Redbud Artisan Market, May 20. This Dripping Springs market takes place three times a year and features more than 60 artisans making jewelry, furniture, paintings, glass art, pottery and much more. Food, wine and music add to the festivities.
Westcave Star Party, May 20. Held at Westcave Preserve, a dark sky location near Sweetwater, Star Party Nights invite visitors to gaze at the stars through a high-quality telescope and talk to local astronomers. Reservations and a small fee are required.
Kerrville Folklife Festival, May 25-June 11. For 46 years, this popular festival has treated visitors to major musicians such as Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett, while also showcasing emerging talent. Festivities include impromptu jam sessions around the campfire, Hill Country bike ride and canoe trips, and much more.
Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival, May 26-28. This Memorial Day weekend tradition offers live music with a Cajun flair, arts and crafts, a carnival, and great food including crawfish and a gumbo cook-off.
