Austin earns many kudos, including Best City for Millennials
With so many options, Millennials are incredibly picky about where they settle down, and Austin fills the bill as the No. 1 “millennial dream city” in America.
So says a recent study from Nestpick, a global relocation website, which ranked Austin No. 1 in the U.S. among 100 global cities it analyzed for food, employment, transportation, housing, gender equality, LGBT friendliness, internet speed and other metrics.
Millennials have “highly expectant standards” for where they live, and “will not stay long in a location that doesn’t match their criteria,” according to Nestpick.
Not surprisingly, Austin ranks especially high for startup companies and festivals, along with employment opportunities and the number of Apple stores, considered a metric for how technologically engaged a citizenry is.
HomeUnion, a national mortgage licensing system, listed the top 5 reasons why Millennials love Austin, including job growth, events & night life, housing, outdoor activities & fitness, and emphasis on environmental sustainability.
Forbes also named Austin as the No. 1 Next Biggest Boom Town in the U.S. “This is no surprise. Austin consistently sits atop Forbes’ annual list of the best cities for jobs and scores highly in other demographic rankings,” writes Forbes. “It is the third-fastest-growing city in the nation, attracting large numbers of college grads, immigrants and families with young children.”
For two years in a row, Austin has also ranked as the No. 1 Best Place to Live in America by U.S. News & World Report.
