Austin is a Top Dog Friendly City
Dogtime.com has named Austin as the No. 4 most dog-friendly city in the United States, based on amenities, services and overall welcoming vibe for our canine companions.
Austin was the only Texas city on the top 10 list, thanks to unique services such as Bow-Wow Bones, a food truck that visits Austin’s many off-leash dog parks, offering natural, preservative-free treats.
Austin is home to more than 35 pet photographers, according to Dogtime – a sure sign of how much we love our furry friends. They note that most Austin restaurants welcome dogs to join diners on the patio, and our climate is perfect for eating outside.
If your pup is looking to cool off, Dogtime says, you can stop by Red Bud Isle Park, a swimming spot on Lady Bird Lake for dogs only. You can find your inner peace taking a yoga class with your four-legged friend at Austin Doga.
With more than 700 acres devoted to parks, trails, recreational amenities and natural open spaces, Sweetwater is a great community for dogs. Experts say that dog people are fitter and happier people, and Sweetwater offers many opportunities to exercise with your dog.
If you don’t have a dog, consider adopting a loveable furry family member from Austin Pets Alive!, one of our nonprofit community partners. Before you head off on the Sweetwater trails with your pup, please read these tips to keeping them safe when hiking with your dog in the Texas Hill Country.
