8 spook-tacular Halloween events near Sweetwater in Lakeway, Bee Cave, Spicewood and the Hill Country
With our frightfully convenient location near Lakeway, Bee Cave, Spicewood and the Hill Country, Sweetwater is close to some of the scariest and most family friendly Halloween events and activities in the Austin area.
To make sure you don’t miss any chance to shiver, we’ve rounded up this boo-tiful list of our eight favorite Halloween happenings for every member of the family, including the dog.
Halloween at the Hive, Oct. 14-28
The Bee Cave Arts Foundation offers Halloween family fun over three weekends at The Hive, located across the street from Barnes & Noble at the Hill Country Galleria. Halloween at the Hive features arts and crafts activities, spooky family photos, scary face-painting and more. Lasers, black lights and ghosts add to the creepy vibe, and costumes are welcome. Tickets raise funds for this community art center and exhibit space.
Witches Ride in Lakeway, Oct. 21
Lakeway’s annual Halloween parade tradition continues this year with the Witches Ride on Sat., Oct. 21. Join in with your decorated bicycle, tricycle, skates, scooters, golf carts… You get it, anything with wheels is welcome, and so are feet, for the approximately one-mile route from Lakeway Drive to the Activity Center. Parade-watchers are very welcome as well. This year, there’s a new sprinkle of magic, a Flash Mob Dance; visit the link for details on the advance dance lesson on Oct. 15. After the ride, there’s an old-fashioned carnival. All activities are free and open to everyone.
Bee Cave’s Haunted Trail & Tunnel, Oct. 27-28
Bee Cave’s second annual Haunted Trail & Tunnel is like a haunted house, but outside. It’s a frightening experience for adults and kids 13 and over. The event is from 7-9 p.m. on Oct. 27-28, at the Bee Cave Trail, located behind Chick-fil-A.
Halloween at the Texas Wine Collective, Oct. 28-29
It’s an easy weekend drive from Sweetwater to the Texas Wine Collective, a grouping of three innovative wineries in one Fredericksburg location. Halloween events include Halloween Candy & Wine Pairing on Oct. 28. The next day, bring your four-legged friends for Howl-O-Ween & Wine on Oct. 29.
This event features a dog costume contest, live music, food trucks and fun. The Hill Country SPCA will be on hand with dogs for adoption, with 15% of wine sale proceeds donated to the SPCA.
Halloween Trick or Treat at Hill Country Galleria, Oct. 28
This shopping, dining and entertainment mecca just a few miles from Sweetwater invites families to their Halloween Trick or Treat on Sat., Oct. 28. Pick up a festive pumpkin bag from the Central Plaza and stroll down Hill Country Boulevard to collect treats from businesses.
Kiddie Halloween Trail & Trunk-or-Treat, Oct. 29
Bee Cave also has a fun Halloween event just for the little ones, with the Kiddie Halloween Trail & Trunk-or-Treat on Oct. 29. Area businesses will be on hand with plenty of candy and fun surprises. Park in the Target parking lot and start the trail behind Chick-fil-A.
Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival, through Oct. 29
Held at the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead, a Texas State Historical Landmark, the Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival brings six themed weekends of unlimited fun with over 50 fall-inspired games, activities, and attractions. Live music, a courtyard marketplace featuring family-friendly products, and an incredible selection of seasonal foods and beverages are featured.
Pumpkins and more at Sweet Berry Farm, through mid-November
Get pumpkins galore at the Hill Country’s original pumpkin patch, with a huge selection of Jack O’Lantern pumpkins and gourds for fall decorations. Sweet Berry Farms in Marble Falls. Their Harvest of Fall Fun features hayrides, mazes, pumpkin painting, scarecrow stuffing, pony rides and more through mid-November.
