8 spook-tacular Halloween & Fall events near Sweetwater in Lakeway, Bee Cave, Spicewood and the Hill Country
With our frightfully convenient location near Lakeway, Bee Cave, Spicewood and the Hill Country, Sweetwater is close to some of the scariest and most family friendly Halloween events and activities in the Austin area.
To make sure you don’t miss any chance to shiver, we’ve rounded up this boo-tiful list of our eight favorite Halloween happenings for every member of the family, including the dog.
Halloween at the Hive, Oct. 19-27
Halloween at the Hive by the Bee Cave Arts Foundation has spooky family fun for a good cause over two weekends, Oct. 19-20, and Oct. 26-27. Come in costume (optional) for the Spooky Boo Haunted House and help raise money for the Mushroom House, an 8-foot-tall playscape that will feature mosaic tiles made by kids. Paranormal prizes, frightening family photos and freaky face painting are just a few of the scary thrills. The new location is 12912 Hill Country Blvd., #F160.
Witches Ride in Lakeway, Oct. 19
Lakeway’s annual Halloween parade tradition continues this year with the Witches Ride on Sat., Oct. 19. Join in with your decorated bicycle, tricycle, skates, scooters, golf carts, etc. Anything with wheels is welcome, and so are feet, for the approximately one-mile route down Lakeway Drive. Parade-watchers are very welcome as well. After the ride, there’s an old-fashioned carnival with a dunk tank, euro-bungee, 360 photo booth, a movie and much more. All activities are free and open to everyone.
Oktoberfest at Hill Country Galleria, Oct. 19
Just a few miles from Sweetwater, the Hill Country Galleria celebrates Oktoberfest on Sat., Oct. 19. This family friendly event will have live music, face painting, balloon art, yard games and more. There’ll be a festive food menu, with plenty of imported beers and local lagers to go with.
Howl-O-Ween at the Texas Wine Collective, Oct. 19-27
It’s an easy weekend drive Sweetwater to the Texas Wine Collective, a grouping of three innovative wineries in one Fredericksburg location. Halloween events include Halloween Candy & Wine Pairing on Oct. 19. Then, bring your four-legged friends for Howl-O-Ween & Wine on Oct. 27.
This event features a dog costume contest, live music, food trucks and fun. The Hill Country SPCA will be on hand with dogs available for adoption, with 15% of wine sale proceeds donated to the SPCA.
Halloween Trick or Treat at Hill Country Galleria, Oct. 26
This shopping, dining and entertainment mecca just a few miles from Sweetwater invites families to their Halloween Trick or Treat on Sat., Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pick up a festive pumpkin bag from the Central Plaza and stroll down Hill Country Boulevard to collect treats from businesses.
Boo at the Zoo, through Oct. 26
A Haunted Train Ride, Haunted Mansion and costume fun are just a few ways to scare up a Boo at the Zoo at the Austin Zoo, just 13 miles from Sweetwater. On Friday and Saturday nights in October, the zoo and its animals will get into the Halloween spirit with themed activities, games and decorated habitats. Bring a picnic to enjoy in the zoo’s Picnic Grove or satisfy your cravings with snacks from the gift shop.
Uhland Fall Fest, through Oct. 27
Formerly the Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival, the new Uhland Fall Fest debuts in 2024 at a new location 25 miles south of Austin. It’s worth the drive, with more than 50 fall-inspired games, activities and attractions on a beautifully shaded, oak-filled farmstead originally settled in 1866. This historic 15-acre property will host a variety of fun zones, including a Pumpkin Patch with more than 30 colorful species, Munchie Meadows with seasonal foods and beverages, 30 American roots performers, and much more.
Pumpkins and more at Sweet Berry Farm, through Nov. 3
Get pumpkins galore at the Hill Country’s original pumpkin patch, with a huge selection of Jack O’Lantern pumpkins and gourds for fall decorations. Sweet Berry Farms in Marble Falls. Their Harvest of Fall Fun features hayrides, mazes, pumpkin painting, scarecrow stuffing, pony rides and more through mid-November.
